Bicyclist dies after being struck by Brightline train in Deerfield Beach

A woman was struck and killed as she tried biking across railroad tracks as a train approached Saturday night.The 64-year-old woman, who hasn’t been identified, was killed at about 8:30 Saturday night at the crossing near Dixie Highway and Northeast 48th Street in Deerfield Beach.Witnesses told police she tried getting around crossing arms on her bicycle and was hit by a Brightline train.The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not released the woman’s name, pending notification of her family. She was pronounced dead at the scene.The incident marks another death involving trains run by Brightline, which is being rebranded as Virgin Trains USA.A man was killed nearly two weeks ago as he tried crossing the tracks in Hollywood, while another was killed in June in Boynton Beach.An SUV also collided with the train in Lantana last week, but no one was injured.
